Decarbonization with Net Zero? The architecture of forest privatization

The member countries of the UNFCCC have been indicating as their long-term commitments the neutralization of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through schemes such as net zero emissions. In practice, the examples underway point to the privatization of forests as a large part of these GHG reductions and removals will be through forest offsets, with many examples of reforestation with monoculture tree plantations. Faced with the lack of ambition of countries and the false solutions that are presented in the name of climate, we propose an international debate in order to exchange information and experiences about the propaganda of the “net zero” concept as the great solution to the climate crisis and how this is reaching countries and territories.
